more4nature has been featured on CORDIS, the European Commission’s portal for EU-funded research results. The ‘Results in Brief’ article ‘Strengthening the role of citizens and communities in environmental compliance assurance‘ highlights how the project is helping citizens and authorities work together to strengthen the collaborative implementation of environmental rules on pollution, biodiversity and deforestation.
The CORDIS article highlights the work of the project coordinated by IHE Delft, as the five-stage methodology that more4nature developed is being tested and refined through 40 cases. Some of these cases are already having real impact on the ground already. For instance, in Ireland, citizen data collected by Coastwatch helped tighten the enforcement of the EU single-use plastics ban. In Poland, supported by Polish Smog Alert, citizen sensors are being tested to complement official air-quality monitoring. Good data practices are also been explored, from FAIR principles to the Green Deal Data Space leaded by CREAF.
The article is part of the ‘Local environmental observations for healthier cities’ Results Pack, which brings together 11 Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020 showing that Europe’s climate objectives are more attainable when citizens understand the problems and help create solutions. Alongside more4nature, the pack features CitiObs, GREENGAGE, Urban ReLeaf, ENFORCE, PSLifestyle, AURORA, OneAquaHealth, I-CHANGE, CompAir and SOCIO-BEE.
