Under the EU Nature Restoration Regulation, EU Member States had to submit their draft National Restoration Plans (NRPs) by 1 September 2026. These national roadmaps must set out how each country will contribute to restoring degraded ecosystems on at least 20% of the EU’s land and sea areas by 2030, and all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050, with specific targets for pollinators, forests, wetlands, rivers and agricultural land.
So far, only a small number of Member States have done so. Although the Regulation requires public participation in the preparation of the plans, and some countries have launched consultations, it is not always clear across countries how citizens and communities can access these plans, let alone influence them.
This interactive more4nature webinar brings together three partners from the more4nature consortium to unpack where the process regarding the National Restoration Plans currently stands, and – importantly – how citizen science initiatives can act now and get involved in implementing and ensuring compliance with the NRPs!
